If I was gay I would think that Hip-Hop hates me

Hip-Hop and R&B in society is seen as being all about tough straight men, "bad bit*hes" and women-loving men. Association with lyrics talking about women and men being in love with each other. This perception has been around for many years, but not everything is straight forward and black & white.
With a voice of a younger and much more soulful John Legend, and the lyricism unlike any other artist or performer I've ever had the pleasure of listening to; Mr. Christopher Francis Ocean or as he is famously known as Frank Ocean, is the most bravest and courageous artist in the Hip-Hop industry today.
On July 4 2012, Frank came out as a bisexual to his fans (I being one of them) on his tumblr blog. People thought he should of kept quite and not say anything. Some of this fans stopped listening to his music, turned against him and started to verbally bash him. They thought that listening to his music will turn them gay, how crazy and ignorant does that sound? Unlike the narrow minded and ignorant people that turned their back on him; there was a large population of fans, fellow artist, actors and LGBT people that supported Frank and commended him for his fearless actions. Actions that could of ended his career due to media and social criticism.
Coming out and revealing your true sexual preference in High School or to your family is already hard and stressful enough, but to come out to the whole world who is watching your every move and in a industry that frowns upon homosexuality is unheard of. Thanks to Frank Ocean and taking a huge risk, he has been able to help others out there to open up and to not hide who they really are.

  1. I agree with this post completely. Frank Ocean has been compared to with some of the greatest, and is also highly regarded by alot of recognised artists; Kanye West... I think it took alot of courage for him to come out, and that shouldn't change the way people view his music. It is sad but it is a reality, that there will always be hate, discrimination in the world, but hopefully he can overcome and rise from the haters.
