Australia says goodbye to beloved journalist, Peter Harvey

R.I.P. 16 September 1944 - 2nd March 2012
On the 2nd March 2013 not only did the Australian media industry lose a well respected journalist, but so did the world. Harvey first made his mark in the media industry when he won a Walkley Award when he was 19 years old, while doing a cadetship with The Daily Telegraph in 1964.

He also took up a career in radio when he worked for one of Australia's oldest radio station 2UE and 2GB. He later on moved to London where he worked for BBC Radio. While in London, he earned the 'British Reporter of the Year Award' when he started working at the British daily newspaper The Guardian.

In 1975 Harvey made a change to his career when he ventured into the world of television when he joined the Nine Network as News Director in Canberra for a number of years. While at Nine, Harvey had a very successful career covering stories such as the dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, the Vietnam war and the first and second Gulf War.

In February 1997, he transferred from Canberra to the Sydney headquarters. Sydney is where he become more of a household name when he joining the 60 minute team, where he hosted the weekly viewers' feedback segment.

I don't know what his last words were, but I would be surprised if it was: "Peter Harvey... Canberra"
